Rebuilding the digital presence of an iconic rugby club

Wasps Rugby is one of the most recognised and historic names in world rugby, with a proud legacy spanning almost 150 years. Following administration, the club entered a new chapter focused on rebuilding, reconnecting with supporters and working towards regaining its rightful place within the game.

HTDL was appointed to support this next phase through web design, development, animation and social media creative. The objective was to create a modern digital presence that respected the club’s heritage while providing the tools and flexibility needed for future growth.

The brief

Wasps required more than just a replacement website. They needed a professional digital platform and supporting creative assets that could evolve alongside the organisation as it develops.

Our Approach

Working closely with the Wasps Rugby leadership team, we developed a strategy focused on creating strong digital foundations first, with the ability to expand functionality over time as the club continues its journey.

The previous website had been built in Umbraco and integrated with the stadium platform, which no longer reflected the new structure of the organisation. We therefore designed and developed a completely new standalone website in Umbraco CMS, giving the club full ownership, improved flexibility and a scalable platform for the future.

The new website was created with responsive layouts, clear user journeys and modular page templates, allowing the team to easily manage content while preparing for future additions such as new sections, features, commercial opportunities and fan engagement tools.

Website design & development

The site used motion graphics for an impactful home page which we created from historic still images. Developed in Umbraco and designed to be clean, modern and user-friendly across all devices. Performance, usability and future scalability were central to the build, ensuring supporters, partners and stakeholders can access key information quickly and easily.

Flexible content modules were developed to allow new sections and pages to be created as well as allowing future campaigns to be launched efficiently, while maintaining consistency across the wider site. While Wasps are not currently looking to re-enter the championships, the site can be developed to accommodate player profiles, ticketing and e-commerce at such time these are required.

Animation & Social Media

To help bring fresh energy into the brand, we produced a suite of motion graphics and animated assets for use across the website, a forthcoming TV documentary and social channels. These assets were designed to create impact, improve engagement and deliver a more dynamic digital experience for supporters.

We also developed branded social media creative to support announcements, updates and wider communications as the club rebuilds its audience and strengthens connections with fans, partners and the rugby community.

Commercial & Print Support

Alongside the website and digital assets, HTDL designed and produced a range of supporting materials including partnership pitch documents, presentation collateral, branded print items and premium NFC business cards to assist networking and commercial activity.

These materials were created to help the club present itself professionally to potential sponsors, investors and commercial partners during an important stage of its redevelopment.

The Outcome

Wasps Rugby now has a strong and professional digital platform supported by refreshed creative assets and commercial materials. With a scalable website and clear brand presence in place, the club is well positioned to continue building momentum both on and off the pitch.
